Remarks Nineteen deletion lines of chromosome 5A of wheat were
created using the gametocidal genes of Aegilops cylindrica.
Deletion lines were characterized by microscopy of root tip
cells stained with the Giemsa C-banding method, measuring
distance to chromosomal banding patterns. These mutants
were named 'q' followed by the number of the deletion line.
Mapping was done on Southern blots by scoring for presence /
absence of hybridization of markers to deletion lines. This
study mapped the Q gene to the distal end of chromosome 5A
